A car painted in a simple manner (as a furnishing or a wall) would oxidize itself very quickly. To prevent corrosion, the coachbuilders have to respect conscientiously and vigorously all the preparation and finishing steps. Despite all the protections against oxydation that are integrated to the modern process, we are still not under cover.
It is necessary to check for rust regularly and to treat it before it does propagate.
The rust
The most dangerous rust is the one you do not see!
- On lowest parts (under wings), the hood.
- On the bottoms of doors, the gutters, the bottom of the windshield.
- Around the wheels.
- In motor compartment.
- The antenna, headlights outline.
- The battery supports, essuie-glaces.
- The door locks, ect..
Fortunately, rust dots are RARER today: the paints and products are of a better quality. Nevertheless, to preserve your car, some attitudes are to keep in memory:
- Wash your car carefully after every wintry usage (on salted roads) and passages in mud. Mud, in particular, keeps humidity and contributes to the attack of varnishes and paints. Favoring at the same time appearance of corrosion.
- Inspect regularly your vehicle: a damaged wing interior, a poorly fixed bib, a chip on the body paint. All these things should be corrected without delay.
Act at first signs!
